Leadership Report

Welcome back to 2023!

We hope all our families had an enjoyable Christmas and New Year and a relaxing holiday break. We are looking forward to a positive year ahead, filled with new and engaging learning experiences, fun and exciting community events, and being with our friends and family. This year will be another busy year with implementing the new K-2 Syllabus and the school's involvement in a School Review and Improvement process in Term 2.

Updating Personal Information

During Term 1, the school will also begin to transfer to Compass - a new school management platform. The School Office may contact some families over the next couple of weeks to confirm that we have updated family personal details to ensure a smooth transition to the new platform. The new platform will be going live at the beginning of Term 2.

If your details have changed since last year, please get in touch with the office with your changes as soon as possible. If you are not receiving correspondence from the school, please ensure you have downloaded the schoolzine app and the school has your latest email address.

Return to School

Just reminding parents that the Year 1 - 6 students will return to school on Wednesday, 1 February. We will hold a short assembly in the hall to welcome everyone back. It will be exciting to welcome our new 2023 Kindergarten cohort next Friday, 3 February. The school will provide morning tea and a chat in the School Hall after the morning assembly for all parents who may need extra comfort before they leave. We can't wait to see them all dressed in their school uniforms!

MAI - Maths Assessment Interview

Maths Assessment Interview sessions will begin on Monday. All students should now be booked in for their session unless absent. Please bring your child straight to the school library where a staff member will sign them in at the beginning of the session. Teachers will spend some time doing a one-to-one assessment with your child. There will be various activities set up in the library in between assessments. Your child may be collected at the conclusion of the session and signed out by the same parent. Please wear casual clothes, bring a water bottle and a happy smile! Children attending Gowrie will be brought up for their session. Please let the educators know. If parents would like to stay and wait during the session you are welcome to sign in at the office and wait outside in the infants eating area. We look forward to seeing you all soon.

School Uniform Update

At the end of last year, we were excited to announce the transition of a new school uniform during Term 2, 2023. All students will commence the year wearing our current school uniform. Please see the school uniform guidelines below. The current school uniform can continue to be worn until the beginning of 2025, when all students will be expected to have transitioned to the new school uniform. The Uniform Committee decided upon the 18-month transition period to ensure all families had adequate planning time to implement the change.

Holiday Improvements

During the holidays, we had some concrete paths laid in the school grounds to connect the basketball court and the adventure playground to allow greater student access, particularly after heavy periods of rain. The students will also be able to use these paths as additional areas to play handball. Filling all the potholes on the front entrance road and car park pick-up area was another holiday improvement. We will replace the bitumen at the Car Park Pick area with concrete during the Easter Holiday break.

2023 Swimming Carnival

SWIMMING CARNIVAL – Friday 10th February

9.30am start time

 Years 3 – 6

(with Yr 2 students turning 8 in 2023 who are proficient swimmers)

Dear Parents,

Here are the details and permission slip regarding our school Swimming Carnival being held on Friday 10th February at the Kendall Swimming Pool.

-Children will come to school as normal and catch a bus to and back from the pool.

-Sports uniform to be worn including hat, with swimmers underneath.

-Bring lunch and a water bottle

-Cost for the swimming pool and buses for children is covered by the school.

-Races begin at 9.45am. Can all parent helpers please meet Mr. Marshall at the pool at 9.20am for a rundown of jobs if possible.

-All children to be at the pool by 9.20am to assemble in their year/class areas.

Staff will be supervising the children during the Carnival with adequate safety ratios in place. This is to ensure the smooth running of the Carnival and, more importantly, to ensure the safety of all children.

The swimming carnival cannot run without many parent helpers, which we are always so fortunate to get. If you are able to help out at any time, could you please indicate on the digital form below.

The toddlers' pool is out of bounds to all children participating in the Carnival, even if their events have finished.

The main emphasis of any of our School Sporting Carnivals is always to encourage participation, sportsmanship and enjoyment. It is expected that all children from Years 3-6 attend the carnival. The more ‘serious’ competition will take place at the Zone Carnival at Macksville later in Week 4. (Tuesday 21st February)

All races/heats will be timed finals with the fastest three swimmers in each age group receiving ribbons for each stroke event.

Children will need - Swimmers, towel, sunscreen, water, recess & lunch (unless pre-ordered).

A  BBQ will operate.  Sausage sandwiches and drinks will be available for lunch purchase. These can be ordered through Flexischools (More information to come). Please pack additional snacks, fruit and water bottle for your child. The pool kiosk will not be open.

Children may be picked up from the pool at the conclusion of the carnival (approximately 2:15pm but this may change without notice). Please ensure you sign your child out with their class teacher. If you wish to stay at the pool for a swim, this will be permitted once the students have left on the buses to ensure student safety.

If you have any special requirements for your child to participate on the day please contact their class teacher.

Many thanks in anticipation of your support once again.

Yours in Sport,

Michael Marshall

(Sports Co-ordinator)
