We wish her all the best as she prepares for the birth of her first child in early March. Mel has been a wonderful Teacher’s Assistant at the school over the past 5 years, and we wish her every success as she pursues her teaching career. We also farewell Eloise Pepper who is pursuing her teaching career in Newcastle next year.
New School Counsellor commencing in 2023
We would like to introduce our new school counsellor, Mrs Rebecca Jamieson who will be commencing at the school at the beginning of 2023. Rebecca will be working on Wednesdays and Thursdays next year. We are looking forward to Rebecca joining our wonderful school community.
Professional Learning Day
On Monday, Teachers engaged in some professional learning about Assessment and Intervention plans to be implemented across K-6 next year. In particular, we learnt about an evidenced based assessment tool that will identify where students are at in their reading skills called DIBELS which stands for Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills. This is a comprehensive reading assessment that identifies skills in phonemic awareness, phonic knowledge, decoding and comprehension. We look forward to implementing this in our school next year to complement the range of data that we collect about students growth and achievement in English that helps to inform our teaching and learning plans.
School Captain Speeches
Congratulations to all the Year 5 students who courageously presented a speech to the school nominating themselves for School Captain 2023. All of the students were encouraging of each other, spoke clearly and enthusiastically and were excellent ambassadors for our school.
On Wednesday we proudly presented Jaylah Jolley and Kynan Thompson to each class as the 2023 School Captains. We trust that they will lead the school with Courtesy, Faith and Diligence.
End of Year Mass
Today we celebrated our End of Year Mass, sending our Year 6 students out to “Let their light Shine”. Our 2022 School Captains, Abbie Hudson and Jack Dorn, passed on the school candle, the light of our school, to the new 2023 School Captains, Jaylah Jolley and Kynan Thompson.

Pool Day
On Monday, we will celebrate our end of the year with a fun Pool Day. Thank you to everyone who has sent their notes back and who has volunteered on the day. After thoroughly assessing risk and parent responses, we have made a decision that Kindergarten will not use the pontoon; however, the pool has allowed us to use bubble wands and have a slip-and-slide for students not using the pontoon. The school will use a PH-balanced baby bubble bath for the slip-and-slide. If your child is sensitive to this, please let their teacher know, so they are kept off it.
Thank you to our parents for your overwhelming response to volunteer. Where you are not needed by the P&F coordinating the food and BBQ, we would love extra support at the slip and slide and other areas.
A huge Thank You to the P&F committee working behind the scenes to make this a great day.
Please review the permission form and ensure your child comes with everything they need, including adequate sun safety (including a rash shirt, hat and sunscreen) towel, recess and water. Year 6 are permitted to wear their Year 6 Leaders shirt with their sports uniform.
End-of-Year Awards
A reminder that we will be presenting our End of Year Awards Ceremony next Tuesday from 9:30 am in the school Hall. All parents are welcome and encouraged to join us as a celebration of learning for all students in 2023. Each student will receive a class award and be congratulated on stage by their teacher. Class awards for academic achievement, effort, Religious Education, sport and Principal’s Pennants will also be presented along with some other extra special awards. We look forward to seeing you there. Please remember this is a formal event, and all students are required to wear their full school uniform, including correct shoes and socks.
Year 6 Graduation
The year 6 Graduation Dinner will be held next Thursday for all year 6 students and their nominated guests. We look forward to this being a very special event where we congratulate and farewell our current year 6 students before they head off to high school and beyond! Those attending should purchase their tickets through the front office by no later than Monday.
Semester Two Reports
Please be reminded that Semester Two reports will be distributed by our online parent portal again this semester. The reports will be available for viewing on Monday, 12th December, at 3:00 pm. If you require a printed copy, please fill in the following link.

Thank you for your support.
On Thursday, we held the major semi-finals for Newcombeball. The first game was the Stingrays v Seals, and what an exciting game, with both teams getting to match point! The winning point was won by the Seals, which means they now play the Pearls in the grand final. The Piranhas took on the Starfish in another awesome match, but in the end, it was the Piranhas who won 15-12.

Year 1 made some wonderful lego creations during Science this week as part of the Lego Build to Give project. For each lego creation that was posted to the Lego Build to Give Instagram page, Lego will donate a lego set to a child in need for Christmas.
Year 1 made thirteen Lego builds which means in one afternoon they have given thirteen children in need lago sets for Christmas. You can visit https://www.lego.com/en-

Geography
In Geography this week Kinder went on a virtual tour to Uluru. We loved riding in the camels and looking at the big red rock from a birds eye view.
