Speech and Drama Eisteddfod Success
Last weekend, over 40 of our talented students represented the school at the annual Speech and Drama Eisteddfod. We would like to extend our congratulations to all the students for their incredible achievements and for demonstrating such confidence and skill on the stage.
A huge thank you to Mrs. Toole for coordinating all our students and to both Mrs. Toole and Mrs. Egan for their dedication in preparing our students. Their commitment to giving up their lunchtimes to practice with students, both individually and in their groups, was invaluable and contributed greatly to the students' success. We are so proud of everyone's hard work!
Confirmation
Today, Year 3 had a Confirmation Reflection Day. A day to reflect on the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the love of Jesus and the communion of saints who we, as Christians, aspire to emulate. Thank you to Mrs Steep for organising such a wonderful day for the students.
On Monday 15th, we will gather in the church at 5pm to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. All friends, family and singers are evry welcome to attend.
We have been praying for our young people, that they may receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit in their lives.

CONFIRMATION PRAYER Spirit of God, grant me: The gift of wisdom To see the world through your eyes, The gift of counsel To make difficult decisions, The gifts of knowledge and understanding To use my mind to know you and to love you, The gift of fortitude To have the courage to live in the faith Despite the difficulties and disappointments, The gift of piety To be able to express my special love And commitment to you, And the right kind of awesome fear That makes me pause to wonder and revere God’s Love. Amen. |
R U OK? Day!
On Thursday the 11th of September, we celebrated R U OK? Day with a special focus on connecting with each other and building a supportive school community. It was a day to remember that a simple question can make a big difference!
We started the day together as a whole school with a whole school meditation session in the hall. This was a wonderful way to take a few moments as a whole school, to be still and to remind us to be better listeners and be more present for others.
Students returned to their classrooms and throughout the day completed an R U OK? Day activity. These activities helped reinforce the importance of asking "Are you okay?", listening to our friends, and knowing how to support each other. We had a great time learning how to take care of each other, to be a good friend and classmate!
Best wishes from the leadership team
Dear Parents,
During Term 4 on the 23rd October, Maria Wilson will be involved in an Assistant Principal appraisal process as part of her contract conditions with the Catholic Schools Office.
The appraisal process seeks information from a variety of people associated with the school. The process aims to highlight the positive aspects of the Assistant Principal’s performance and identify areas for further development. A timeline will be constructed to suit the needs of the school community. A panel consisting of the school Principal as Chair and a Regional Service Leader from the Catholic Schools Office will conduct the appraisal. The full Assistant Principal appraisal process involves:
• a survey and self-appraisal statement completed by the Assistant Principal
• surveys of school staff, Catholic Schools Office personnel
• Input by the Principal
• input as arranged with the Parish Priest
• interviews with school staff
• interviews with any parents who wish to present
• a formal interview with the Assistant Principal by the panel
Any parents who wish to make contact with the panel are welcome to do so by contacting the Principal before the appraisal date. Not all those that wish to be interviewed may be accommodated.
Thank you for your support of the school’s leadership team.
Yours sincerely,
Rick Galvin

It has now been selected as a finalist and will go into an exhibition in the Cathedral in Lismore.
From mid-December, Australian children under 16 will not be allowed to hold accounts on certain social media platforms. The age restrictions are likely to apply to Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, TikTok and YouTube, among other platforms. Online gaming and standalone messaging apps are among a number of types of services that have been excluded.
It’s not a ban. It’s a delay to having accounts.
Being logged into an account increases the likelihood that they’ll be exposed to pressures and risks that can be hard to deal with. These come from social media platform design features that encourage them to spend more time on screens, while also serving up content that can harm their health and wellbeing.
For example, the pressure to view disappearing content and respond to a stream of notifications and alerts has been linked to harms to health - these include reduced sleep and attention and increased stress levels.
While most platforms currently have a minimum age of 13 for account holders, delaying account access until 16 will give young people more time to develop important skills and maturity. It’s breathing space to build digital literacy, critical reasoning, impulse control and greater resilience.

Students at our school have revealed that they have a presence on a number of social media and gaming platforms, such as Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube and Roblox. Often, inappropriate concepts and negative communications through these platforms between students filter into the school environment. These concepts and communications are difficult to track, especially with disappearing messages on many platforms, unsupervised social media and chat access, and the creation of new terminology based on current social media trends.
The upcoming restrictions are a perfect opportunity to review your child’s social media accounts and discuss the need for increased maturity required to hold these accounts as well as examining household routines to create positive online habits. Just like alcohol use or driving a car, these restrictions take into account a child’s emotional and social development, and aim to promote positive relationships, reduce exposure to inappropriate content, develop healthy screen habits.
Some suggestions to help with changes include:
- Change YouTube and TikTok use to YouTube Kids or ABC Kids iView for free streaming services or create a restricted child account on your family’s streaming media accounts.
- Change Snapchat and gaming chats, such as Roblox, to Messenger Kids, a parent-managed messaging app.
- Set up limits and parental controls on child devices, such as amount of time spent on social media and streaming accounts.
- Once your child reaches 13 years of age and you wish to introduce social media, set up Meta Teen accounts for Facebook and Instagram, which have built-in protections (note: there has been no communications as to how these accounts will be impacted by the new restrictions).
- Sign out of all social media accounts, changing passwords or deleting accounts.
- Remove social media accounts from students’ personal devices.
- Consider Screen Time vs Screen Quality, see this video from Emma Cross from Curtin University.
Use online family resources from ThinkUKnow or the eSafety Commissioner to support the transition to the restrictions. Other resources are available from Headspace and Beyond Blue.

Stage 2 Science
Today, Stage 2 began the 'making' part of their design and make project. They have come up with some fantastic ideas by using recycled items and repurposing them into new creations."
Kindergarten
This week, during their Maths lessons, Kindergarten have been learing about volume and capacity. This week, it was time to do some hands-on experiments to see who built the biggest sandcastle.
