Stop Work Action Friday 27, May - Limited Supervision only.
We would like to thank all our families for responding so promptly to the "Stop Work Action Attendance Survey" sent out earlier this week. As advised on Wednesday, due to low staff to student ratios on Friday, the school will only be able to provide limited supervision to those families who indicated they required support in the Stop Work Action Attendance Survey.
To the families that have indicated they require supervision, please see the following details for the day:
- All students attending are to wear full school uniform.
- Bring recess and lunch (there will be no canteen).
- There will only be bus and Gowrie options for home lines. All other families will need to park and come inside the gate to pick up their child/ren.
- Please note that all students will be supervised in one space, and no learning programs will occur.
- No assembly will be held this week.
If circumstances have changed since completing the survey and you can keep your child/ren at home, could you please let the school know as soon as possible to assist with the organisation of the day.
Thank you for your continued support.
National Sorry Day
National Sorry Day, or the National Day of Healing is an annual event that has been held in Australia on the 26th of May since 1998. This day remembers and commemorates the mistreatment of the country’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Sorry Day leads us into Reconciliation Week. The 26th of May was chosen as the date because in 1997 the Bringing Them Home report was published. This year’s theme for Reconciliation Week is “Be Brave, Make Change."
Mathematics Professional Learning
We were very fortunate to welcome Peter Sullivan to St Joseph’s on Wednesday and Thursday this week. Peter is a professor at the Monash University in Science, Mathematics and Technology Education. He has extensive experience and research in Mathematics. All staff were able to work with Peter in their Mathematics lessons. Peter demonstrated in the Infants classes and Year 6. It was fantastic to see the engagement from both the students and staff. We are looking forward to putting into practice all that we learnt.
Welcome Noah Begley
A warm welcome to Noah Begley, who has joined our school community in Year 6 this week all the way from Zurich, Switzerland. Noah will be part of Joey's community until the end of the term. We are looking forward to Noah sharing some of his Swiss Culture and traditional customs with our school community.
Best wishes from the leadership team

National Sorry Day, or the National Day of Healing is an annual event that has been held in Australia on the 26th of May since 1998. National Sorry Day is to acknowledge the strength of the Stolen Generations Survivors, their families and their communities and reflect on how Australians can all play a part in the healing process for the people and nation. This day remembers and commemorates the mistreatment of the country’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Sorry Day leads us into Reconciliation Week. The 26th of May was chosen as the date because in 1997 the Bringing Them Home report was published. This year’s theme for Reconciliation Week is “Be Brave, Make Change”.
On Monday we will be commemorating Reconciliation Week with a prayer in our morning assembly. We welcome parents to join us in recognising the significance of National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week as an important part of the healing process.

Lismore Diocese Cross Country
Last Wednesday, we had three students; Ciara Hoare, Ruby Whitelaw and Ivy Farrell, represent the Hastings Zone at the Lismore Diocese Cross Country Carnival held in Grafton. All the students reported a fun day and challenging course. The girls all ran exceptionally well and represented our school and region with pride. A special congratulations go to Ciara Hoare 2nd and Ruby Whitelaw 7th, who now represent the Lismore Diocese at the Polding Trials that will be held at Eastern Creek. Go girls!!
Reports will be distributed via the Parent Portal in week 9 at the end of this term.
Please see below for further information on how you can access your child's report.
Dear parents and carers,
Year 1 and Year 2 have continued their investigation into water as part of their Science and Technology unit this term. Students consolidated learning about the water cycle by creating their own 'water cycle in a bag' as well as investigating where water can be found in our school, what it's used for and determining the quality of the water from its clarity. In the coming weeks students will design and make a water filter while building empathy for children in other countries who do not have access to clean water like we do.
Next week our Choir will perform at the Taree Eisteddfod. Information has been sent to all students who are involved.
The choir will also sing with the Parish Choir at Mass on Saturday 4th June at 5pm. We invite all families to join us for this special Mass.
The choir will also lead us in the singing at the Sacrament of Confirmation accompanied by some of our guitarists.
We are praying for these students in year 3-7 who are making their Confirmation.
Confirmation will start at 5:30 pm on Thursday 16th June at St Peter the Fisherman.
The Bishop will speak with students from 5 pm.
We will also have the senior choir and guitarists helping with the music
We would like all students to be at the church between 4:45-4:55 pm.
More information will be sent to families involved in the Sacrament.
Please note there will be changes to the bus routes effective Monday, 23 May 2022. The new schedule is below, with changes highlighted in yellow. Please read the schedule carefully as to how this might effect your child.
